We are partnered with the OXO Explorer Scout Unit who provide Explorer Scouting to 14-18 year olds in the Prescot, Rainhill and Whiston area.
We also welcome Explorer Scouts as Young Leaders to help in Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.
Being an Explorer
When you join Explorers, you’ll be introduced to lots of new activities, people and things.
Learn the Lingo
Explorer Scouts – Explorers are young people usually aged between 14 and 18 years old. Young people can join in the 6 months leading up to their fourteenth birthday. They can move to the next section, Scout Network at the age of 18 years old.
Young Leaders – Explorers can help to deliver the programme for the younger sections as Young Leaders.
Unit / ESU – Explorers meet together in their section which is known as an Explorer Scout ‘Unit’, or simply ‘ESU’. Our unit is called the OXO ESU.
Patrols – Explorers may be split into smaller groups called ‘Patrols’ to carry out activities and tasks together.
Nights Away – Our ESU aims to organise at least one weekend residential event per year, known as a ‘Night Away’ from home.
Explorer leaders
All of our leaders are trained volunteers working to make Explorers the best it can be, but we don’t just need swashbuckling adventurers to lead our expeditions. We also need tidy-uppers and tea-makers and great listeners from all walks of life – for as much or as little time as they can spare.
Activities and what you’ll get up to
With the support, direction and guidance of Unit leaders, you’ll be encouraged to lead yourselves, design your own programme and work towards the top awards that Scouting offers. With exciting prospects like being a part of camps and expeditions both home and abroad; adventurous activities such as mountaineering, parascending and off shore sailing; Explorers offers fun and adventure for all.
Awards
Explorers start small but think big, always challenging themselves to do more and be more. It all starts with an award.

Explorer Promise
As a values based movement we all make the ‘The Promise’ – an oath that helps us to be our best
Uniform and badge placement
You don’t need a uniform to join Explorers. But once you’ve settled in, you’ll start speedily earning badges, and you’ll need to know where to put them.
