Safety and Safeguarding

Keeping our members safe

Ensuring the safety and safeguarding of all those involved in Scouting is central to what we do. Some of the key things we do are:

  • Issue all our volunteers with a copy of our ‘Yellow Card’ code of behaviour
  • All of our volunteers are vetted, including a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
  • All of our appointed volunteers receive Getting Started training
  • All of our appointed volunteers undertaken ongoing training in safety and safeguarding
  • We will always have at least two adults present for an activity, except in emergencies
  • We will always have someone present who is first aid trained

If there is something which you think we can improve on, please speak to a leader.

If there is something which you consider dangerous, please do not hesitate to raise it immediately with any of our volunteers.

If you have concerns about a safeguarding issue, please speak to a leader, or the District Commissioner, or contact The Scout Association’s Safeguarding Team.

If you believe a young person is at immediate risk of harm call the police on 999.

We have a “Keeping Young People Safe – The Yellow Card” which covers key points about how adults should conduct themselves and what to do if there are any concerns:
