Volunteers

You’ll get stuck-in helping to run games and activities, or help with some of the housekeeping needed to run our sessions.  You’ll be supported at all times by one of our Section Leaders who will be leading the sessions.

You can commit to help as much as you want to - maybe once a month for a couple of hours one evening, or maybe during a weekend activity or residential event.  Maybe you want to help more often.  Just let us know what works for you, and keep us updated if things change!

Like an Occasional Helper, you’ll get stuck-in helping to run games and activities, or help with some of the housekeeping needed to run our sessions.  You might also want to get involved with helping to plan the programme of activities and be more frequently involved.  You’ll become a member of Scouts and be supported at all times by one of our Section Leaders who will be leading the sessions.

You’ll be involved on a regular basis, but this doesn’t have to be every week.  You can agree how often you’ll assist as part of the team.

You’ll be a key part of the leadership team – helping to plan, organise and delivery activities, and taking care of the housekeeping needed to run our sessions.  You’ll become a member of Scouts and as a leader you’ll be helping to support and supervise Section Assistants and Occasional Helpers.

You’ll be involved on a regular basis, but this doesn’t have to be every week.  You’ll agree with your team how you’ll share the responsibilities to run the section.  Assistant Section Leaders work with the Section Leader to provide youth leadership and communicate with parents.

The Section Leader is the lead volunteer within the section, coordinating their team to deliver #skillsforlife

Desirable requirements:

• Some prior youth leadership experience for Section Leader role

You’ll provide a niche set of skills to deliver a particular activity or set of activities.  This could be any number of activities such as: archery, air rifle shooting, tomahawk throwing, canoeing, kayaking, bell boating, hill walking and much more.  You can find out about the range of potential activities at scouts.org.uk

You’ll be involved on whatever works for the activity or activities you’re offering, and you’ll agree when you’ll deliver these activities with the leadership team.  You’ll deliver these activities in partnership with Section Leaders.

You’ll have the time and interest to develop and maintain a special set of skills and experience to provide some great adventures!

• Prior experience of delivering the activity
• Up-to-date training and/or qualifications for the activity

Group Supporters can get involved in all sorts of ways.  That could be helping to organise fundraising, helping to maintain our building or equipment, lending a hand with technology, or helping us advertise what we do, and much more besides.

If you want to get involved without being involved in youth leadership, or maybe you can’t make a regular commitment, or you have a niche skill that might help us in ways we might not even realise, then get in-touch!

Group Administrators play a key role in helping to keep our information up-to-date and make sure the ‘back-office’ of the group is in a good condition.  This could be anything from helping to manage membership enquiries, to taking bookings to use the building, to supporting section leaders with maintaining records of achievement.

You can make a big difference through providing good administration, freeing other volunteers to focus on delivering the programme of activities.

You’ll look after the group’s finances, assets and ensure the safety of our educational charity as one of a team of Charity Trustees that form the Group Executive Committee.  You’ll take an interest in how the group is running, what it needs, and how we keep running long into the future.

The committee ideally includes a chair, vice chair, secretary, treasurer, committee members, and key leader and manages from the group.  You will have an interest in making sure the group runs smoothly.  You may bring a specific set of skills – like facilitation, finance, minute-taking, governance, fundraising or building maintenance – or you might want to learn new skills to be able to do so.

Whatever your background, you’ll be part of a team of trustees bringing each of their experience to the table to make a difference in our local community.

Take on a key role in leading our team of volunteers, helping individuals to develop and making sure we deliver the best programme of activities we can.  Ideally this team will be made up of a Group Scout Leader, Deputy Group Scout Leader and Group Scout Active Support Manager.

You’ll want to help adults and young people alike realise their potential, inspire confidence in parents, promote a safe culture and play a key role with recruiting new volunteers.

You don’t have to be able to pitch a tent (although it’d help!), but you do need to be able to pitch a plan of action, work with your leaders and other volunteers to realise it, and think about what’s coming in the future.

You’ll lead the way in making sure we deliver #skillsforlife.
